General surgery deals with surgical conditions of the abdominal wall and soft tissues: hernias (inguinal, umbilical), lipomas, sebaceous cysts, lumps under the skin, whitlow (paronychia), ingrown toenails, wounds and abscesses. Many of these can be treated with minor surgery at the clinic, under local anesthesia. Proctology covers diseases of the anus and rectum: hemorrhoids, anal fissures, perianal abscesses and fistulas.
